In the context of increasingly scarce resources and increasing pressure on environmental pollution, Vietnam is promoting the development of resource recycling industrial parks to optimize the use of raw materials, reduce waste and promote a circular economy.
Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment had a working session with the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI) to accelerate the construction of a resource recycling industrial park in Vietnam. This cooperation focuses on sharing experiences and transferring recycling technology from Korea, supporting Vietnam in developing a recycling industrial park model towards a circular economy.
At the same time, KEITI will coordinate with domestic agencies to build a system for collecting, classifying and recycling waste into input materials for production, as well as connecting businesses of the two countries to attract investment in the recycling sector.
This cooperation is expected to help Vietnam effectively utilize resources, reduce environmental pollution and enhance the competitiveness of the domestic recycling industry.
Many Southeast Asian countries have successfully implemented recycling industrial parks, in which Thailand has strongly developed material recovery facilities (MRFs) to optimize waste classification and recycling. Singapore achieved a recycling rate of more than 60% in 2020 thanks to its smart waste management system and centralized recycling industrial parks. These models are important lessons for Vietnam to refer to, from preferential policies for businesses to modern processing technology.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Anh, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Rubber and Plastic Association, commented that this is an important step to help the domestic recycling industry develop in a sustainable direction.
"Building a recycling industrial park will help businesses access high-quality recycled materials, reduce production costs and meet increasingly stringent environmental standards of the international market. However, it is important to have support policies to encourage investment in recycling technology and expand the domestic market for recycled products," Mr. Quoc Anh emphasized.
